REDFUE pays tribute to Antonio Sáenz de Miera, promoter of University Business relations

Antonio Sáenz de Miera has been a true promoter of University-Company relations.

In 1973 he launched the Universidad Empresa Foundation, in Madrid. In 1997, when there were already Company University Foundations throughout Spain, he was one of the creators and first President of REDFUE.

For this reason, REDFUE in the 10th Edition of the University Company Awards, paid a warm tribute to him, which was attended by numerous colleagues from the Universidad Empresa Foundation, the Network, friends and family.

Antonio Sáenz de Miera received a sculpture by Pablo Maojo with his initials as a gift.

Our most sincere gratitude to the work that Antonio has carried out throughout his life to benefit the relations between two worlds that, thanks to him, are more united every day.

Fertiberia and the Network of Technological Business Chairs of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena have been awarded the Business University Awards that were presented today at the headquarters of the Ramón Areces Foundation. The event was chaired by the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela, and the general director of Universities, Jorge Sáinz.

The Spanish Network of Business University Foundations (REDFUE) promotes the Business University Awards, which this year reach their tenth edition, with the aim of recognizing examples of continued cooperation between companies and universities.

The jury’s decision has valued Fertiberia’s collaboration for 25 years with different Spanish universities, which has contributed to the development of the most advanced fertilizers. Also its policy of approaching the University through the creation of the “Fertiberia Chair of Agro-Environmental Studies” and the Fertiberia Prize for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Agricultural Topics.

Regarding the Network of Chairs of Technological Companies of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the Jury has decided to reward the concept of organization and unification of all the chairs under one roof, something completely new in Spain.

During the awards ceremony, the president of REDFUE, Eduardo Manrique, announced the creation of a new award that will reward research work, at an international level, on the relationships between the university and economic spheres. This new award will be called: “Antonio Sáenz de Miera International Prize for research in University-Business relations”, creator of the first Business University Foundation, in Madrid and promoter of the REDFUE.

The event, which this year reached its 10th Edition, included a loving tribute to Antonio Saénz de Miera, honorary president of REDFUE, and founder, in 1973, of the first Business University Foundation.

The event also included the presentation of the Spanish report of the EUFORI Study (European Foundations for Research and Innovation) “Research and Innovation Foundations in Spain: analysis, trends and potential” carried out by Marta Rey from the University of A Coruña and Luis Ignacio Álvarez from the University of Oviedo.
